Exomoon
Exomoon: The Crystal Frontier
Working concept
Guests arrive at the Asteria Research Outpost on a recently discovered moon orbiting a massive gas giant. The moon’s low gravity, enormous crystal formations and powerful magnetic tides make it one of the strangest environments humanity has encountered.
Scientists have detected an unexplained energy pattern moving through the crystals. Guests join a field expedition aboard magnetic survey skimmers to deploy three monitoring beacons before the moon passes into a long eclipse.
The queue passes through a functioning planetary base with laboratories, greenhouses, geological samples and panoramic views of the coaster landscape. Real displays introduce exomoons, tidal heating and the possibility of environments unlike anything in our solar system.
The coaster expedition includes:
1. Departure from Asteria Base – The skimmer accelerates out of the station and climbs into the crystal highlands.
2. The Low-Gravity Canyon – Hills, drops and moments of airtime simulate travel in reduced gravity.
3. The Resonance Caverns – The train enters a dark cave where enormous crystals pulse with light and sound as the first monitoring beacon activates.
4. The Magnetic Tide – The gas giant rises over the horizon, triggering an electrical storm. The crystals begin exchanging energy across the landscape.
5. Emergency Rerouting – A moonquake blocks the planned route. The skimmer launches through a new passage, dives around the spires and races ahead of the approaching eclipse.
6. The Discovery – The final beacon activates, revealing that the crystal field behaves like an enormous interconnected system—somewhere between geology and life.
The expedition returns with the discovery intact rather than destroying or removing it. The exit exhibit separates the attraction’s fictional moon from real exoplanet and exomoon science.
Exomoon: The Crystal Frontier
Race across an alien moon on humanity’s most urgent field expedition.
Guests travel to the Asteria Research Outpost on a distant moon covered with towering crystals and orbiting a massive gas giant. When scientists detect an unexplained energy pattern moving beneath the surface, expedition teams board magnetic survey skimmers to deploy a network of monitoring beacons before the moon enters a long eclipse.
The high-speed coaster races through low-gravity canyons, glowing caverns and an electrical storm triggered by the planet overhead. When a moonquake blocks the planned route, the skimmers must find another way through the crystal wilderness.
The expedition ultimately reveals that the crystals form an enormous interconnected system unlike anything previously discovered. An exit exhibit explores the real science of exomoons, tidal heating and the search for environments beyond our solar system.
